Hello, colleagues and friends, we have had a very long time. In the past year, a team of archivists has discovered our long and legendary past, from our first High Street bank in Providence 185 years ago to 219 constituent banks today.
Looking at some of our history, I was shocked by the proximity of the language of the original charter to the words of our creed. Our history and heritage are very unique and remarkable, and this is something we can embrace, so I want to share with you now. Because in order to know where you are going, you must know where you have been.
In the Rhode Island State Council of the Providence Plantation in South Kingston, a banking company was established on the last Monday of October 1827, and this was our first branch in the town. Point. It is named Citizens, which is related to our beliefs and the well-being of our customers.
So it is not our bank, it is the Bank of all citizens. For 185 years, we have helped our citizens flourish from the houses they live in to the cars they drive to the ideas of creating small businesses. Our roots are related to the country’s roots. Agriculture, mining, fishing are all banking services. We are related to industries, especially emerging industries like automotive technology, health care and so on.
Our bank was one of the first banks to offer help when a social class citizen like me and you needed a loan, and we were who nobody else wanted to be. This is the oldest bank office in the country. It has been in operation since 1803. We are the first savings bank in the country established by the Women’s Federal Reserve Bank in 1922. We were one of the first banks to serve the free people after the civil war, the Star savings bank in 1878. The immigrant population turned to us instead of stocks. The paparazzi said the Charter One Bank was founded in 1934.
Even during the great depression, we served the citizens. Everyone looked at our housing loans, business loans, College loans, and we built businesses, schools, factories, hospitals, courts. We built trust, it’s not just a bank with branches, safe deposit boxes, box office, ATM, mobile, banks.
For people, it’s a good personal bank, a bank that understands your name, listens, guides your children, and represents perpetual accountability, accessibility, innovation, community and values. One thing we’ve learned over time is that anyone can provide banking, but not everyone can.
